Throughout the years, customers have been asking Axis for custom one-off accessories for specific project needs. These custom designs don't typically make a global impact or become a standard Axis product. But, Axis wants to accommodate those who have unique and specific project requests.
Therefore we've created the 3D printing project initiative! This project allows those who have specific accessory requests to utilize 3D printing in order to quickly create specialized and niche products.
A large correctional institution used a 1" conduit in their design but Axis products only support up to 3/4" conduit. Because of this, they had to terminate the conduit with a 2-gang junction box and then run the cable into the P32 series camera. So they asked Axis to design and manufacture 1" to 3/4" conduit reducer.
Because this would not be a global product, Axis decided that this would be a good use of our 3D printing resources. See images below.
Another project requested was for an backplate for the A4020 reader. This is a mullion-style reader. Due to several large projects, our partner had requested a backplate for a single gang box which is not currently available through Axis. To enable the win for both partner and sales, contact was initiated with the 3D printing team. The team created a design for the backplate and it was printed for a single gang box to assist with the system integrator's challenges during installation and helped them to win the project.
